Purpose of the Association

The Association was created by statute and is subject to regulatory supervision of the Department of Insurance. The purpose of the Association is to make automobile bodily injury and property damage liability insurance required by the Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act available to eligible applicants, subject to the rules of the Association.

The Association has established procedures for the equitable distribution of applications for insurance to be assigned to insurance companies. All insurance companies (except ineligible county mutuals) authorized to write motor vehicle liability policies in the State of Texas must be members of the Association and participate in its operation.

The Association is governed by Chapter 2151 , Texas Insurance Code, and its Plan of Operation, which has been approved by the Commissioner of Insurance.

Producer Certification Education and Training

TAIPA periodically provides state-wide producer training seminars in venues throughout the state.
These training seminars provide producers an opportunity to:

  • meet TAIPA staff and obtain information regarding the assignment process;
  • learn about TAIPA's Producer Certification Program requirements;
  • learn about TAIPA's Electronic Submission Procedure (ESP) and Electronic Application Submission Interface (EASi);
  • get tips on completing TAIPA's application for assignment; and
  • get answers to rules and rating questions

In addition, those who attend TAIPA's state-wide producer training seminars are eligible to earn continuing education credit as approved by the Texas Department of Insurance.

TAIPA provides one-on-one training to producers upon request; if you or your agency staff wish to meet with TAIPA staff at our offices in Austin to discuss specific issues, overall TAIPA rules and regulations, rating questions, or other related matters, please contact TAIPA's Customer Service Department at (512) 444-4441 or toll free (866) 321-9154 so that a meeting can be arranged.
